Red Flames play friendly matches against England, Austria and Luxembourg

Our Red Flames have confirmed three matches for their WEURO preparation.

The preparation programme of our Red Flames towards WEURO 2022 is taking shape. On Thursday 16 June our national women's football team will play the Lionesses in England, on Sunday 26 June they will face Austria in a first home game and on Tuesday 28 June they will play Luxembourg at home. There will be further preparation matches in June.

England is ranked number eight in the FIFA world rankings, twelve places higher than our Red Flames. The English were semi-finalists at both the 2017 European Championship and the past World Cup in 2019. This will be a good test for our women’s team in the run-up to the European Championship in July.

The match takes place at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton on 16 June. Kick-off is scheduled at 21.00 Belgian time.

The Belgians last played against England in 2019. The Lionesses then travelled to Leuven for a friendly match which ended 3-3.

Just like England, Austria is also part of Group A at the European Championship. The Austrians are a place lower than the Flames in the world rankings and are therefore an equal opponent. Austria will travel to Belgium on Sunday 26 June.

The mountainous country is no unknown opponent for Ives Serneels' players. Both countries played against each other at the Cyprus Cup in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, they even played each other twice in five days. The Austrians and English will open the European Championship finals on 6 July at Old Trafford.

Luxembourg is the last opponent in the Flames' preparation period. That home match will take place on 28 June. Both teams played against each other last year. Then the Flames drew the longest straw with 0-1.

For the two home matches, kick-off times and locations have not yet been confirmed.

Information on ticket sales will follow soon.
