Red Devils head to Wembley in March 2024
Now that the Red Devils have qualified for next summer's European Championships in Germany, work is underway on the programme in the run-up to EURO2024. The first match is already confirmed.
On Tuesday 26 March, Belgium will play England at Wembley Stadium in London.
England is currently fourth in the FIFA rankings, one place ahead of the Red Devils.
National coach Domenico Tedesco is delighted with a strong opponent like England for a match that counts as the first big test before the European Championship.
"England is a strong team and the type of opponent we need in the build-up to the EURO. Besides, every football fan dreams of being at Wembley one day. We are already very much looking forward to it. By playing against strong opponents, we will know better and faster where and how we still need to inprove to compete with the big favourites for the title at the EURO."
- Domenico Tedesco, national coach
It will be the 36th showdown between the two countries. Of the past 35 duels, the Red Devils won only six, against 23 wins for England. Six times the match ended undecided.
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the Red Devils beat England twice: in the group stage it was 1-0 and in the match for bronze, Belgium won 2-0.
The two countries also faced each other in the group stage of Nations League 2020. Belgium won the match in Leuven 2-0, but lost 2-1 at Wembley. Twice in an empty stadium because of corona.
