RBFA launches new national anthem

Red Devils and Red Flames will now sing in three languages

The RBFA launches a new version of the Brabançonne. From the youth teams to the Red Devils and the Red Flames, everyone will now sing the national anthem in the three national languages. The new version will be launched on Tuesday 12 September, before the home match of the Red Devils against Estonia. The RBFA provides a 30-person strong choir, but is also looking for 10 fans to sing the Brabançonne a cappella and to involve the Red Devils and fans in their enthusiasm.

“For the match against Estonia, we will set a trend for the coming years where players and fans sing the same version of the national anthem. Hockey players are used to doing that in two languages, for the Devils and Flames we add a touch of German. The new national anthem symbolises the solidarity that exists among the fans. They are already behind the team as one, from now on they will also sing with one voice.”

– Michaël Schockaert, marketing manager RBFA

National anthem will be mix of the three national languages

The Devils’ madness has been going crescendo in recent months. The knowledge of the Belgian national anthem is stagnating, both among the players and the fans. But the RBFA wants to change that by relaunching the Brabançonne, in a new version. Inspired by the Red Lions and the Red Panthers, it opts for a uniform anthem. From the youth teams to the A-teams, from now on everyone will sing the Brabançonne in a mix of the three national languages.

As part of the #WirSchaffenDas campaign, the new national anthem is getting a massive launch on Tuesday 12 September. The RBFA asks fans to sing along with the Brabançonne in three languages before the kick-off of the home match against Estonia, and thus blow the Red Devils’ socks off. The text will be played on the screens in the stadium.

Singing fans wanted

Because not everyone is blessed with a good sense of rhythm, the choir Fine Fleur will be singing the Brabançonne a cappella from the field. That choir was created especially for the Night of the Proms and over the years accompanied world stars such as Andrea Bocelli, Ennio Morricone and Roger Hodgson. On September 12, they will add Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne to their impressive list.

The 30 singers of Fine Fleur will receive the help of some Devils fans that day. The RBFA is looking for 10 nightingales with a black-yellow-red heart, the Stromaes and Angèles among Devils fans. Supporters who want to sing in a swirling King Baudouin stadium can register before Sunday 3 September using this form. In a video they sing the new national anthem and prove they have a golden singing voice. A jury will select the best entries.

For King, for Freedom ... and for the Red Devils

For the fans who wish to practice, this is the text of the trilingual Brabançonne:

O dierbaar België, o heilig land der vaad’ren
